Cattle Penning in New Brunswick
I was wandering around at a cattle penning event on Sunday afternoon and grabbed a few shots. It had rained the proverbial cats and dogs the day before, although Sunday dawned hot and sunny. At the start of the day, the sand in the competition ring resembled mud soup!
For those not familiar with the sport, a herd of heiffers is turned out in a fenced ring. Each cow is wearing a number. Teams of 3 people on horse back wait at the starting line...
for the announcer to declare what number they are to cut out of the herd, move to the other end of the ring and drive into the corral - all within a limited amount of time. Great fun to watch, and the kids' competition (sadly for me, later in the day) is a riot to watch. They are intense!
