The lowest of tides reveals a gorgeous underwater display of green sea anenomes and pink seagrass. This tide pool contrasts with farms of mussels and a foreboding sea stack at the rarely-photographed North End of Shi Shi Beach.

Canon 5D Mark II, Nikkor 14-24mm/2.8G, Tripod
Two exposure manual blend to capture the high dynamic range from the dark tide pool to the bright sky.

very cool! i'm thinking of heading out that way in a week or so... have to have a look, and hope the tide will be low!

Very nice Navin I feel like I'm being treated to an underwater scene as well as a landscape scene. Love the green sea anenomes.

Two worlds is a proper title! Such wonderful color contrasted against the brown rocks is beautiful!

Great result. It's always so interesting to be able to bring out the underwater views in shots like this.

Excellent. and I like your interpretation of HDR as human dynamic range. It doesn't scream fake to me which is harmonious with a shot like this. well done all around.

    thanks everyone!

rocky - i timed my visit for the full moon (which with the new moon) was when the tide is lowest.

tom - i did have to play with the curves a bit to alleviate some reflections caused by the water. can someone please make a polarizer for the 14-24 already?!! :)

wicked - i experimented for a whole two weeks with photomatix and decided it was not for me. i definitely prefer manual blends as they're much more illustrative of the scene

A really beautiful scene and you captured it well. If you had not said so, I would have never known it was a blend of two. The wide angle really accentuates the depth.

That's pretty darn fantastic. I feel like I'm falling into the scene!

Learned something too. Didn't know you could mount a Nikkor lens on a Cannon body. Is that an aftermarket conversion or attachment?

Wow, this is very nice. Good job handling the exposure and I love all the detail in the foreground.

thanks guys... bryce i use a fotodiox adapter, but I'm thinking it compromises a bit on quality so i'm waiting for a new one from novoflex/16-9.net
