Uploader limiting the amount of files I can add

I have a new gallery started that I am trying to add photos to. There are 563 photos that I need to upload. Two weeks ago this was no issue. I logged in tonight to create the new galleries and am presented with yet another different styled upload page and when I try to add all of the photos I get an error telling me "you have selected too many files".

I also have a 50 meg down and 5 meg up connection and it seems that smugmug is limitiing my upload speed to 2.5 meg. Again, two weeks ago, no issues.

What gives?

    Hi Jonny,

What browser are you using? If you're on Internet Explorer, you may see the Flash uploader. It's possible that this uploader is limited to a fewer number of photos. You can use the 'different uploader' link and select the Simple uploader. That should allow you to add the files at once.

We don't limit upload speeds on our end and there are many factors that may influence the speed you're getting. Keep in mind that the speeds given by your ISP are usually maximum possible speeds and that doesn't mean you can reach them at all times or to all servers. The internet is made up of many servers that your packets have to pass through in order to get from point A to point B and not all may be providing full speeds that your connection might allow for.

If you're using a different browser or still have an issue, you can contact us at our help desk:

The Simple uploader used to be the default for me whenever I went to Upload - it's now changed to the HTML5 uploader which limited the number of files it would upload for me on the first and only time I tried it.

    Why has the default changed?

It hasn't - we remember the last one you used - to change to a different uploader, click the 'try a different uploader' link

No, every time I go to upload it brings up the HTML5 uploader and I have to 'Try a different uploader' to get back to the Simple Java one. This has only happened in the past week or so.

In fact I've just finishing uploading two files with the Simple uploader, clicked on 'I'm done uploading' to bring me back to the gallery and immediately clicked on the Upload tab again - only to have the HTML5 version open up again!

I've had the exact same issue for some time now. Something has changed at SM.

I want to reproduce this - can you tell me the browser you're using and the exact steps to make this happen? I've tried setting HTML5, going to Simple, closing, coming back, and I'm at Simple. I've tried HTML5, going to Flashy, closing coming back and I'm at Flashy as I expect... help me to help you guys, thanks!

Wait, you mentioned this setting is stored in a cookie, right? Is this even between logins? headscratch.gif
