Cool shot - although you really have to look hard to see the bird. If you hadn't said something, I probably would have missed it, especially in this size photo.
The idea for the shot was to get the reflections on an unusually calm Intracoastal Waterway, the Halifax River. I saw the heron, and while it wasn't my first priority, was glad to capture it.
I noticed the bird without reading your comment. While kind of cool, I think it's too small to have much visual impact. The reflections are nice.
Thank you. It was all about the reflections of the condos. The bird was just an added bonus for me. That's the reason it's in this topic instead of the wildlife one, and why I pointed it (the heron) out. Figured no one would even notice if I hadn't.
Annoying, isn't it? If that's all you have to say, maybe it's better to keep quiet.
Oh, sorry. I thought you wanted comments. But apparently you're not hoping for any kind of constructive criticism, you just want people to jump up and down and shout HooooRaaaay?

No, I don't need anyone to jump up and down shouting HooooRaaaay, and quite the contrary, I don't mind CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. However, I don't consider your post to be constructive. Therefore, in the future, please refrain from replying to my posts. Thank you.

Andy, I've seen his work, and I'm sorry, but I'm not impressed. I don't consider "I do see the bird when I look closely, but sad to say, the watermark is so damn distracting there's little chance of seeing the bird. " a valid criticsm. Had he phrased his comment a little differently, I would have taken it with a grain of salt, and not given it any thought one way or the other. Everyone knows watermarks are distracting, but it's my way to let people know to whom this photo belongs.
I asked the mod to remove his replies, and by extention, mine, and the subject would have been dropped. This could have been discussed in a PM.

Again, it's his opinion, and had it been expressed differently, there would have been no reply one way or the other. But, it was expressed poorly and his second reply was rather childish and uncalled for. Not everyone here follows his formula, nor should they be made to feel they should. (As I feel now.) If you want to continue to chastise me for expressing my opinion, please use a PM.
Thank you, Mary. Very much appreciated. I watched your slideshow and I"ve got to say, I love the dogs. I'm guessing it's a Golden Retriever and the (guessing again) Peekapoo together are really great.

Hi ..
Yes it is a golden retriever ... Tyler is her name. The other dog is Spike my brothers dog. He's a Shih-Tzu. These 2 dogs get along so good
I think if you crop the image from the bottom of the reflection to just over the buildings and adjust the curves with a little shapening the image would stand out more and the bird would be much more visible.
The watermark is so far down at the bottom it doesn't even register for me.
AS for BD's or anyone's comments...................It is up to each of us to do what we will with them. When you get say a harsh, or unflattering reaction, back up and try to look at the image with a calm non defensive eye. Try to see with their eyes. After that it's up to each of us to do what we will with the advice.
I remember years ago I posted a photo I liked, and it got ripped to shreds. Including comments from Andy. I liked the image then and I still like the image. My non photography friends like the image.
But the bottom line is I still value the opinions given including Andy's.
We can disagree with the evaluation yet have respect for the person.
PS: BD has ripped my photos as well. If you have heard anything about hired dog nappers simply ignore it. I assure you nothing but rumors.

Sam
Thank you, Sam. Now that's what I call constructive criticsm, and that, I don't mind. It's now only what he said, but the way he said it. A watermark to me is a necessary evil. I know it can be removed, or cropped, but if someone were to steal a photo, they would be well aware they were stealing, and I would have legal recourse. If a person can't see that, plus the fact they were so easily distracted, would indicate a fault of theirs, not mine.
As for your comments, yes, I could adjust the curves, (I'll give it a go when I get a chance to get back to it.) but I don't think any more sharpening will help. It was a rather long exposure and the heron was moving, causing him to be a bit fuzzy. The cropping I leave until final print. I try to leave a bit for different size prints, plus framing. Actually, I already shot a little too close on the right and gave myself little no right side cropping. (Which is why I left the little building on the left to be sacrificed.)
I do thank you for taking time to look at the photo, and I apprecitae the time you spent in talking to me.
Not too long ago I posted an image of a young man with a camera and I left a watermark on the picture. Yes BD quickly told me that while the picture was good but the watermark didn't do it for him. I'm looking for the remarks about the picture it's self and won't let the remark about the watermark bother me. I do like the image it's self and simply block out the watermark. Bottom line know what to fight over and be a duck by simply letting somethings roll off.
So I looked at the reflections first as you requested, and saw the bird which was insignificant to me in the image. I was more interested in how the reflections were showing pools, moving and still water with what also appears to be a sand bar/shallow water and all in one shot with some nicely lit buildings in the background.

Thank you, Scott. That's exactly what you were supposed to see.
