A member of the Nymphalidae (Brush foot butterflies) family.
The white marking on the underside gives this butterfly its common name.
Some notes on the settings/technique used.
Olympus E3 + Sigma 150 macro, No flash, ISO 200, f10, 1/100s, AF-C (or C-AF in Olympus terminology).
The difficulty with a macro lens is the narrow dof. Images #1 & #2 are virtually full frame. The closer the subject, the narrower the dof hence f10 was chosen.
There was easily enough natural light, fill-in flash could have caused more problems with reflections and I could get into a position where I could get maximum benifit from the sun's light without causing problems with deep shadows. I therefore chose not to use flash.
C-AF was chosen as only a slight movement when taking the photo would risk an oof result.
Hope you like these.
