Friendship Fountain Area - Jacksonville, FL (Need a little help)

So I finally made it down to the Friendship Fountain area downtown last night. Was threatening rain all night and sprinkling on us every so often. Anyway, it's a great area, very nice (they just refurbed the circle). Got to shoot some photos. I don't do a lot of long exposure shots so I have a question. On the photos shot across the water (at the Jacksonville Landing area), the light for the text is (obviously) over-exposed as I was exposing for the sky to get a nice balance. Unfortunately, it makes the text too hard to read as it's not sharp due to the over-exposure. I played with levels, etc. in LR but can't bring them back. What do you suggest to get sharp text? Just under-expose the sky a bit?

Thanks.

Here are some shots:

1: I need a wide angle lens for this sort of thing.

The only way to get is all is to shoot several shots with exposure set to capture highlights, mid tones and shadows. Then blend in post.

I sort of figured that but just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy.

    Thanks!
