Very promising indeed, but I need to be able to publish to my FB Page, not my personal profile... so that request gets another vote from me!

The "Uploading Photos to the Graph API via a URL" feature in today's Facebook Developer Blog post (http://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/526/) may make this easier... or maybe not...

Is there any way to control the link text that displays when viewing the photos in Facebook? For instance, it would be nice to have the link text say something like "View this photo on SmugMug" instead of displaying the url.

I'd like to see this too, actually it would be great if people could click on the photo on facebook and it would take them to Smugmug

I've hit the join button on 2 different browsers. Google Chrome, and IE. The buttons are in red, however on my site it doesn't allow me the options to publish to Facebook. I only get the "Show Off", and "your social accounts" options in that area.

+1 ...being able to customize the link text helps motivate viewers to jump from Facebook and over to Smugmug for a better-than-Facebook presentation or for selling opportunities, for example if we could customize the link text to say:

    See larger images on yourdomain.com
    See a full-screen slideshow on yourdomain.com
    See more images on yourdomain.com
See the entire gallery on yourdomain.com
    Buy this photo on yourdomain.com
Order a T-shirt of this photo on yourdomain.com

Thank you so much, Smug! This will save me HUGE blocks of time w/ captioning, etc. I'm so excited to try it out. I also want to add my vote for making this capability possible for Fan Pages on FB as well, as quickly sharing watermarked photos there on my Photog Page is the main reason I'll want this. Only one question (until I've tried it): I don't quite understand this statement in the instructions: "...Remember that only you as the logged-in gallery owner will be able to see and use this feature. Right now you have to opt-in to Publish to Facebook, but when we work out the kinks this feature will be available to all gallery owners like you...."

I'm not clear on what will be possible later that's not possible now? Who can't publish now? I mean.... no one is ever going to be able to publish my photos to an album on FB except me as the gallery owner, correct?? I sure hope not!

    Large size?
    Two problems:

    1) I didn't measure it - but I selected Large and it definitely wasn't the full 720px that Facebook allows. So I quickly deleted the album.

    2) The images were immediately public. That's why I deleted the album so quickly. I didn't want everyone looking at my images at a resolution that is less than what I typically show.

I'd like large to be the full 720px. And I'd like an option to not post the images publicly until I'm ready to make them public (usually after setting the copyright on them and after tagging people appropriately).

Speaking of copyright - Facebook's uploader automatically adds the copyright from the EXIF data. I'd like it to do that too.

Thanks! I just tried it and it's great.

One thing didn't happen as expected. There was a notice that I'd receive an email when it got to Facebook but I didn't (and I did check my spam folder). However, my 13 photos & comments posted up to Facebook quickly and I love the new capability.

    Thanks again!

I have 2 facebook accounts - one for JC Dill Photography, one for personal stuff. (I opted to do this instead of creating a Page on my regular account, so that I can control notifications separately, going to separate email accounts. Also so that I can keep a clear demarcation between work and not-work.)

Jill, do you know that's against FB's TOS? I also had two accounts, one for business and one for personal and I was told that one would get shut down if I didn't choose which one I wanted to keep. I reluctantly shut down my business one and then set up business pages on my personal profile as I wanted to keep business and personal separate. I've got it working fine and in fact have 3 business pages relating to different things I do. So I have separate fans per page and they don't have access to my personal FB profile.

One of the top requests we've gotten over the years is for you to be able to easily export your SmugMug photos into albums on Facebook. We've been working hard on this and we're ready to let you test it out.

Like our new gallery style thread, you can opt in to enable this beta feature in your browser. It works the same way:
    1. Visit our Goodies page here: http://www.smugmug.com/goodies/
    2. Click the green 'JOIN' button next to the Publish to Facebook section.
    3. If you're on a custom domain you'll need to visit the /goodies/ page on your custom URL, too.
    4. Leave at any time by hitting the 'LEAVE' button and we'll remove the new features from your view.
Once you've joined, visit any of your galleries and hit the Share button. You should see a new "Publish to Facebook" option under the Owner Only options.

Click it and choose the photos from your gallery that you want to share. We'll give you a chance to pick which Album to publish to, or you can create a new one. Feel free to also customize the Image size, Caption and Link Style settings.

Hit Publish and we'll port them over to the album of your choice.

Love it? Hate it? Spot a bug? Let us know right here in this thread.

I love the new look and the idea! Perhaps I'm doing it wrong but I'm not getting any of the screens that you showed (the"publish to facebook, resize, link style, etc) so I just pushed the share button underneath the picture and I WAS able to post it directly to my business page?????

Do you have "block pop up windows" enabled? When I first tried this, I had "block pop up windows" enabled in Safari and I couldn't login to FB. I de-selected the "block pop up windows" and was able to login. I re-enabled "block pop up windows" after logging in.

Yes, you can do that (share on a biz page), but it's through a different method than this new capability that's described in this thread. With this new method, you can put your whole Smug gallery, or some of the photos from your Smug gallery (including the captions & watermarks that are present) directly into a new album on FB, which would then get found in your "Photos" section & also end up in your friends' newsfeed initially. So it's different from just sharing or posting a Smug gallery directly on your FB FanPage or personal Profile. That just lets people come here to see it. This new method would actually create the FB album & people wouldn't go off FB to see it. But we aren't yet able to do that on a FanPage. This new capability is found under: "Share > Owner Only > Publish to Facebook"

So, based on the statement I quoted from SmugMug in Post #37 in this thread, what is it that'll be available later that's not available now? I don't understand the meaning of that statement.

Anna Lisa, right now it's ONLY available if you hit the /goodies page to enable it. When we go live for real, it'll be on everyone's share menu when they are logged in as account owner.

Ahh-- Ok, sillly me. I see. Heat's gotten to my grey matter. Thanks, Andy. This is really a great addition to Smug. It'll be absolutely fantabulous when it includes Fan Pages. But the ability to keep watermarks, and captions too-- WOW. Huge.

    Need Page Support
I absolutely love the publish to Facebook feature. However, it is very limited with support for just profiles, and not pages. I would think that most professional users on SmugMug run some type of a business, and probably have a page associated with it. With that being said, I hope there will be support for that in the future. Thanks for all the work!

Love the new ability to send albums to facebook but we really need to be able to use it with our business pages. I like to keep my personal page and my business page separate so I won't be using it until it will work with business pages. Hope this happens soon, it's really a great idea.

There's way around this. As long as the two accounts have no information in common--email addresses, phone numbers, etc, you can keep them separate in separate accounts. There's some advantages/disadvantages to this, but I haven't had a chance to find out what they are firsthand.

    Confidentiality
    Great functionnality! thumb.gif
My suggestion is to add the possibility to choose the confidentiality when publishing the album. It seems it is currently set to the default parameter, I think it would be a great option to be able to check "Friends only", "Friends of friends", ...

Can we select a size (or limit the size) to publish to facebook?

Some accounts on facebook seem to now allow for larger images (1024px and more). Also facebook allows people to download those images. I would like to only publish 500px images to facebook from Smugmug.

We've not implemented this feature yet in the new gallery style, that's why.
