Thanks lilmomma for your comments! I'm not sure there's anything more "to get" than what you are seeing, that is face and hands.
I very much value your technical crit, since technique is so important to me, but I don't see what you seem to describe. There is an airbrushing effect (noise reduction on skin, smoothing and glow), which I had assessed as close to authentic to the style in -

But please open my eyes more, if you can be more specific about any problems you see. That would be invaluable to helping me improve!

PS I intend to burn in the eyelashes shadow on her right cheek.

@ lilmomma, as you can see from the hairline 100% crop, the hair right on the hairline is pretty much similar to the hair further back up on the head. This leads me to think that it's not so much a smoothing blend problem as motion blur (also DOF) - the whole image has motion blur - and isn't perfect!D

Seriously though, Neil, don't take my nitpicking to heart. Its really a minor nit, and i love the shot.
Thanks, Charles! Great encouragement.
I used 2 580EXIIs, one in a diy 10" conical reflector with a diy diffuser above and behind shoulder L, and the other with a 1/6" Honl grid at eye level perpendicular on R, with 2 continuous light softboxes in front and high. The effect was the kind of thing I was looking for, but the shot was somewhat underexposed, certainly not ideal. I am finding that the 580EXIIs are frustrating to work with - the tolerances in terms of light coverage, control, shaping and power are not flexible enough. I am finding they just don't cut it for serious studio work. The guys that do use flahes as their main lights are using banks of them. Not a great deal of point in that, I reckon. I have never had "big" lights, but I'm gonna hafta getem!
Any thoughts from your experience with your gear, please?
