As much as it pains me to do this I'm selling my 70-200mm 2.8L IS. This is the original, not the II version. The lens is easily the sharpest I have owned, and the IS and AF is amazing on it. The lens itself and the glass are completely flawless.

Included with the lens is the Hood (which has a few minor scratches, but nothing affecting performance or overly noticeable), Tripod ring, both the front and back lens caps, the original box, and the original canon lens pouch.

I would not sell this lens if I wasn't as hard up for money as I am... It is absolutely amazing, and I will definitely be owning one again in the future!

I'll post up photos of it later tonight.

Price: $1600

Well, my Flickr account seems to be experiencing some technical difficulties, so if you'd like images of the lens I would be happy to email them to you, just shoot me a PM.

    Also, I'm asking $1600 OBO

I have been looking for this lens and wonder what the difference is between
the ver 1 and ver 2. My daughter and I will share it on her 5DmarkII. I have nikon equipment and need that lens. I am considering switching to
Canon so it would be best to build up the Canon gear we have.

Please let me know if it is still available. thanks

    thanks

It was posted the last week of July. I think you were looking at the OP's join date.

I sent this guy the money for the lens 8 days ago, and followed up with emails asking for tracking information and confirmation that he mailed this out on 8/2, 8/4, 8/7, and 8/9.

No response from the seller at all. Not even a 'yes, I mailed it out.' I'll edit this if/when the lens shows up, but to prevent this from happening again, I want to make sure people know that this guy is either at worse, a scammer, or at best, absolutely incapable of following up on a transaction.

I don't believe he has anything else listed for sale, but keep this in mind.

Yeah, this is getting rough. :( I have enough of his information to go the police now, but I'd rather not. I'm going to give it another day before things get irreversibly serious. :(

I am really not convinced that this is a scam. Looking at his profile, I see that it says he's 20, joined in Feb 2010, has sold other items that seem to have been smooth transactions, has asked for photo critique here on DGrin, and has asked advice/participated here. If this is a scam, then it's been planned for a long time and the scammer has gone to a bunch of trouble to do it. I don't think that's likely. He's sold many items worth hundreds of dollars. All to scam someone out of $1600? That's almost 2 years spent trying to get $600. He'd do a lot better working at a fast food place.

I think it's more likely that he either forgot about selling this or he's so busy that he doesn't even have time to check his email. It's possible that he decided just recently to try to scam someone, but in this case I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. No, I don't underestimate your situation re sending money and not hearing anything, I certainly understand and would not want to be in that situation. I'm just saying that it could very possibly be an honest mistake.

Did you use paypal and file a complaint? I hope you didn't wire money over a credit union... :P Also, have you tried to reach him any other ways? Like that MSN thing in his profile...

Yeah, all signs point to scam at this time, just not a very good one. I have his cell phone number, left messages, no return call or email. I've spoken with an acquaintance of his on the phone also, who is also trying to get a hold of him and no luck there yet. I've emailed him at all the email addresses for him that I can find, as well as posting on his FB photography page. He mentioned being in a pinch, money-wise in his email and thanked me for buying the lens. His acquaintance also mentioned he might've been having some financial problems. Right now we're going on 10 days with no contact (either myself or the acquaintance), after 6 emails, and 2 calls / messages on his cell phone, no response on his FB page either.

The only thought now is that he's very ill or there's an emergency. I'll find that out soon enough, I have a number for a family member, and I've told the seller I don't want to involve others like that, but I'm not being left with much choice.

I'm not even asking for the lens at this point.. Just money back, or a tracking # showing the lens is on its way. That's not unreasonable. :(

If you used your credit card, just do a chargeback. If it does come, then your card company can reverse it.

Well, I called his house and spoke with his father, then he contacted me the next day via email (for the first time since I sent him the money), saying he'd shipped it out that afternoon. I asked for tracking info, and he said he didn't have it with him, but would get it to me on Monday. It's Tuesday, and still no tracking info. We'll see if it shows up this week...

Guys like Sh4dow really know how to ruin it for everyone else. Sorry for what you have to go through OP, hopefully everything will resolve in the end. And let this be a lesson to others on the forums who buy used:

ALWAYS use Paypal Credit Card payment. Chargebacks can be done quickly and hasslefree. If the item does come, just have your card company reverse it.

    Lens
Hope this is resolved in a good way soon. This is exactly why I'm so shy of buying equipment without using my credit card. So sorry this happened. Definitely unneeded stress!
