Kasich comes to town

Governor Kasich made a pit stop at a local ice cream shop on his way to a meeting here in Findlay. I heard about him making an appearance, so I grabbed my camera and went over. It was pretty crowded, so it was tough trying to get a shot without a head, arm, etc. in it. Let me know what you think of the shots.

Thanks,
Jake

Good set, Jake. Having shot some events with crowds, I know how tough it can be to get "clean" photos of your subject. Sometimes, it's not always a bad thing, as some of that "clutter" adds to the sense of energy of the event. In shot #2, the little bit on the lower left doesn't really detract from the image for me, as you can see the woman's face, and clearly see the expressions on both her and the Governor's face. Unfortunately, in #1, it works against you, blocking out the Gov's hand like that. I do like these, I think you did a good job capturing him - and I really like the last shot, having a little something to eat.

I think you did quite well. Remember that you are shooting a political event, not a portrait, so a good shot doesn't mean the subject is completely isolated. My favorite in the set is #6--the governor is looking serious, but the guy on the left doesn't seem to be buying it, and the two Men In Black look like what they probably are lol3.gif. #2 is also very good.

Nice job, Jake - 1, 2 and 6 are the best in terms of images that clearly show what this is about. Richard makes an excellent point about considering the difference between producing portraits and producing story-telling images.

Jake it seems like Buckeye Grinners are slim to be found here so welcome. This is a good set, #2 & #6 are exceptional. Did you by chance crop down #4?
