My sister gave birth yesterday to this little turkey 8 lbs 14 ounces. All was well and I got to document the moment his big sister met him. Went home and was taking my son to little league when we got the call that my sister was hemorraghing and in the OR. All is well now, she lost a lot of blood and scared the hell out of all of us. On the drive there, all I could think about was "please don't let these be the last photos I get of my sister". It's all I could think about that I documented her last moments. Not sure why I'm sharing these thoughts.

Here are the photos of the happy moments.
The scene I was met w/ in the OR waiting room was horrible in comparison, not just my family but everyone there, not a dry eye in the place and the tension and apprehension was thick. I did not dare document any of that. Though it did cross my mind.

Love the series Liz. There is no way I could choose a favorite. I love them all for different reasons. From the big sister's expression in #1 to reaching out to touch the new addition in #2. The world meeting the little one in #3 is fantastic, especially with mom reaching to her. The blur effect in #4 shows a sense of urgency; that photo by itself would actually scare the heck out of me. And there's no scene like when mom first gets to hold the little one in her arms like in #5.

Thank you so much for sharing this very uplifting series. You truly have a gift.

I'm really glad to hear that you're sister is going to be okay. I can't even begin to think about imagining how that felt. While I haven't been blessed with a child of my own, I have 3 nephews and 2 nieces. To go from that emotional high to...well...you know. My well wishes and good thoughts go to you and yours.

Scary--glad to hear that your sister is OK. Excellent set. Big sister sure looks unhappy with the competition. The one thing that's missing for me is a shot with your sister in sharp focus, but you probably have one somewhere.

Thanks for the well wishes all.
Everyone is doing good now and mom and baby are home.

My favorite shot is #1 where big sister realizes the jig is up rolleyes1.gif.

Richard--I did take a few photos of my sister w/ the baby where she is in focus, actually I can't believe I took so many shots!

Nyarthlopic--the motion shot w/ the baby in midair being held by the nurse. You are right, it does look kind of scary. It's just a nurse being a nurse and quickly moving the baby from mom to the little crib. We handle the baby so tenderly and gingerly but the medical profession holds them like bowling balls rolleyes1.gif. The difference always cracks me up.

love this series Liz, congratulations! and I definitely Laughing.gif'd when you said they hold them like bowling balls...so true! we are so cautious and careful around babies and nurses just whip them around like it's no big deal!

Anyway good to hear your sister is ok. that had to be pretty scary.
I can't really pick a favorite but if I HAD to it would be #2.

Love the series (with #3 as a favorite). I think you have captured the essence of the moments incredibly well! (BTW, I have been waiting for #1 & #5 to reappear as I have been only getting red Xs for a few days...)

Thank you much. These special moments don't come around everyday for me, so I was glad to be part of it. I actually tried to talk her into catching the actual birth (a view from her shoulders down, not from the feet, lol, but she drew a line and would not budge:)
