#3 is good, and would be even better with a shallow depth of field. They could all actually benifit from a more shallow DOF. It would remove the backgrounds from the equation and add a little drama. Kind of "snapshotty" with everything in focus.

#4 has decent bokeh, but she just doesn't look comfortable. Yes, she's doing a pull-up, but the smile isn't natural because she's... well... doing a pull-up! It's hard to pull off a good smile while your lifting anything.

I like #1. The chinup made me laugh cuz I never saw anyone smile while doing them ;).

    Thanks all.

Here's a different chinup with a bit more grit. She's honestly in good enough shape to smile up there.

    Agree about the DOF.

I like most of the poses. The backgrounds are the only thing that holds these photos back from being good to great.

(With apologies to Zero Mostel) Since you got it.... use it! Slap that 70-200 puppy on the camera, set it to wide open and watch those subjects pop out of their backgrounds :)

I think of all the sets of yours I've seen, this one is the most coherent and the model looks the most connected; I suspect it's because she's actually *doing* something rather than trying to "think" an idea or character.

    Thanks all.

I'll have to pull the 70-200 out more often on location.

Diva - maybe because this was an actual concept shoot not a generic "fashion/swimsuit" one.
Curious about your reactions to these two, which are on real live agency comp cards.

First one - presumably very specific for clothes/golf, but she does look a little "posed" and static, despite the swing! In combination with other shots on a comp card I'm sure it will work for its chosen purpose; on its own, it seems a little limited. I don't mind the background in this one (I suppose because it kind of fits with the "sports clothes" of the outfit and swing), but I think I'd like it even more with shallower depth of field :D

Second one is well on its way to WOW. I'm not a fan of the stick figure model look (and I would like a little less slouch in the posture - personal preference, YMMV) but with that said this is a great fashion-ish shot. The background enhances rather than distracts, the toning of the white dress, pale complexion and misty background don't compete with each other, the makeup and styling is consistent with the look/colours/feel of the shot and lighting, and in general it works very well for me. The only real nits I have is that I'd like a little more headroom, and I wish that the dark of the hill didn't cut right across her neck BUT those weren't the first things I saw when I looked at the shot; I actually had to scan it *looking* for nits thumb.gif

The first one was for a specific pitch to the LPGA and the agency liked it enough to have it printed on the comp.

The second was used in the web gallery and print look book by Elite NY for the model. She retired from runway (an old bat at 26) and moved back home to AZ where the agency used this on her card.

All in all, it looks more like I'm choosing the wrong frames to post.headscratch.gif

I still love the comments and dialogue though.thumb.gif
