Just got a new lighting kit

I've done portrait photography for the last couple years using mainly natural lighting. But I want to start doing newborn and infant sessions and so I need to be able to shoot better indoor shots. I bought a simple 3 light kit with a white and black umbrella. Any tips on proper or basic lighting setup?

What type of lights did you buy, strobes or constant lights?
