lost a video in a significant way

I appear to have 'lost' a video in a gallery.
The only place I can see it is via a keyword for all videos of rats, and it's the first on on this page:
http://www.joinrats.com/keyword/videos%20of%20rats#P-5-15
("Two examples of shy rats meeting a new human and giving her some "tooth activity...")

This video was originally located - I saw it not 5 minutes ago - here:
http://www.joinrats.com/EarningTrust/RatsUsingTeeth/15630450_tn43k#816210567_GrUKt

Then I "collected" a different video and put it in the same gallery. It is this one:
http://www.joinrats.com/EarningTrust/RatsUsingTeeth/15630450_tn43k

That I did this seems to have affected the first one, which now no longer shows in the gallery at all (it wasn't a collected video, its home was there).

What's worse, from the keyword page of all videos of rats, these happen if you try to assess the missing video:
- if you click "see in original gallery", it does take you to the proper gallery, but the video isn't there: http://www.joinrats.com/EarningTrust/RatsUsingTeeth/15630450_tn43k#692695746_9ktM9
- if you click "share" and select get a gallery link (now, this is for the video as it appears in the keyword page), you get a link to a gallery where this video never resided (and isn't even relevant to the topic):
http://www.joinrats.com/RatHealth/TrimmingNails/TrimmingNailsDremel/14031111_mC3Me
- or share and select lightbox link, you are taken to the wrong video (the one and only video that is in this proper gallery, the one I collected there a couple of minutes ago): http://www.joinrats.com/EarningTrust/RatsUsingTeeth/15630450_tn43k#692695746_9ktM9-A-LB

I'd like to find the missing video and return it to http://www.joinrats.com/EarningTrust/RatsUsingTeeth/15630450_tn43k#816210567_GrUKt.

Please tell me it isn't lost. :uhoh

Thank you for letting me know. I'm trying not to sweat bullets, in part because I lost one of my hard drives and so I don't think I have this video anywhere else. :cry

You can easily go here and save the movie to your computer:

Oh good grief, the one variation on finding it that I didn't try. It sounds like the paths/access issues are independent of whether it exists at all. Thank you.

I'm still trying to figure out why your code is pointing to that video but when you click on the link it redirects to another video. I'm glad we were able to find the video at least so you didn't lose it :D

Thank you so much, miracle worker. :D But - we're almost there - the gallery link for the video (via the keywords page) still has the wrong gallery:
    http://www.joinrats.com/RatHealth/TrimmingNails/TrimmingNailsDremel/14031111_mC3Me
Via the right gallery, the gallery link under share has the *right* gallery.

It looks like when you get a link in the keyword page, the gallery link is wrong but the lightbox link is right, as you can see here: https://skitch.com/heroofcanton/fm66f/ but, like you mentioned, the links in the original galleries is correct.

This is a bug that we noticed with images but didn't realize videos were effected too so thank you for helping us find it! I have reported it and we will get to work on it as soon as we can :)

Aww, thanks much. Can you recommend an excellent but inexpensive hard-disk-recoverer that might recover all my videos? It's a dinky 2TB hard drive, not even half full but it's all gold to me. :sick :hurt:sick

I can't recommend anything specifically, I personally haven't had to use anything like that in a number of years now. headscratch.gif

I would probably recommend starting a new thread in this forum: http://www.dgrin.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5

I did a quick search on dgrin and I didn't see anything posted about recovery tools in the last 2-3 years so there might be something newer than what has been discussed.

    Good Luck :D

The one thing I can say with confidence is that SM has NEVER lost anything that I've uploaded. I have over 500,000 images/videos online with them and I've downloaded each of them and they're okay. Every time something disappears, it's usually some sort of code issue rather than a storage issue. thumb.gif

Seagate has a really good company they bought out that does recovery. I've talked to them before as I have 5 drives that need recovery. I don't buy anything but enterprise class 1.2M MTBF drives anymore because of this--it's not worth the risk.

Thanks, that's relieving about not losing videos. Would you share the name of the company that Seagate bought, that recovers disks? It's a Seagate disk that died. :tiptoe

I think this is the Seagate company I was thinking of. The thing I remember about them was the ability to recover data directly from the platters themselves it the drive mechanism was too badly damaged.

Thanks very much. I believe what happened with the disk is that I left it plugged into the adapter (for weeks?)... i don't know if it makes a difference if the "engine" died, or the disk was 'burned' out as a result, or or... I will ask them!

If it is an external drive that uses a power supply, I'd see if I can find another known working power supply with the same voltage and amperage. If this power supply gets the drive working, it was the power supply and the drive is fine. thumb.gif

Otherwise, you can disassemble the external casing and mount the drive internally. Sometimes the enclosure electronics die and not the drive itself.

You are so kind to give me tips ... however .... wish I could say I'll 'get right on it' but
more likely I'll be calling someone for help.rolleyes1.gifdgrinrolleyes1.gif
