This morning the wind dropped down, so I took advantage of the moment to take a few shots of the bees at the Lavender Bush.
I got some really cool tips off Brian (Lord Vetinari) and though I didn't have a lot of time to really take my time, I managed to hand hold this shot using the Canon 20D and the Canon 580 external flash, with a Soft Box attached to the flash.
This shot is NOT CROPPED. enjoy......... Skippy (Australia)

I used the Canon 100mm Macro, with a Kenko Ext Tube as well.
I think I can do better, I was just going out to feed the magpie and had like 5 minutes up my sleeve.... hope to get a chance on the weekend to give it a lot more time......my work commitments at the moment are more demanding though.

Thanks for looking Al, I was thrilled the Brians help was easy to put into action.

I know all about that work commitment thing - gets in the way of taking pics mwink.gif.

I'm not sure if you flashing from on the camera - what I've found helps tremendously is to get an off-camera flash cable and flash from the side. You get way less flash highlights.

Thank you for pointing that out, I had been told about it, and I do have an extention cable for using the flash off the camera, I just at this stage don't have time to set that up ........I will give it a go when I get time though and let you know how it goes, thanks for mentioning it .... I hope to get a chance on Saturday to actually get the tripod out, however that remains to be seen rolleyes1.gif I'm still working 7 days a week only longer hours than normal, so fingers crossed there is no wind on Saturday cause thats about the only day I will get a chance to take advantage of a few hours, before I go to work again.
    Thanks for looking......... Skippy (Australia)

    Hi Brian
    Lovely capture.

    Brian V.
Thank you for all your help, your advice has made it far better for me to hand hold and use the flash with the Softbox attached......looks amazing bulky, but I am not really struggling to hold it.......the breeze and wind here at the moment are not making it easy......hopefully a nice still day will make a difference.

    Thanks again.......... Skippy (Australia)
