I have the same question as one of the YouTube commenters: Anybody know why they needed the bodies at all? Couldn't they just trigger the flashes alone? I've Google around but none of the articles/interviews I've read goes into that detail.
Maybe the camera's are there simply to hold up the flashes.
Really interesting execution. From an "audience" perspective, the flash alone may not have been as recognizable to many people.

Several parts in the video show images taken from the cameras point of view. You know the ones where we see a time slice 3D pan of them frozen in mid air etc. Kind of like the bullet cam idea that was popularized in the Matrix film.
This is the only reason other than looks that I could imagine the need for the camera bodies.

(acknowledging that you did post a smiley , but to clarify...) I was curious because at least the 580 series comes with its own stand that slides onto the hot shoe mount so that the flash can stand independently, for off-camera triggering. They wouldn't need to rent a quarter million dollars worth of bodies to hold them up.

It was a cool setup but It didn't look like they were using to take pictures.

I kinda like that explanation, and the other one about taking pictures from the wall perspective...
Merged.
