Abandoned Power Station

I visited the South Fremantle Power Station yesterday. It's one of the better known derelict sites here in Perth, and it lived up to its reputation of being a creepy place. It was a favourite spot for suicide until they removed all of the inner staircases, and four people have been murdered there. It was opened in 1951, and closed in 1985. All of these images are 5-shot HDR. Thanks for looking.

This is the approach from the West. It's right on the beach, with seawater being used as coolant for a long time.

The East side, with the obligatory abandoned car.

Unfortunately, we don't take good care of our heritage sites.

Clearly, the urban artists have won.

Some of the spaces inside are wonderful.

Some people like living dangerously, and frightening me!

Nice body of work, John. Interesting scene selections. I like your approach with HDR....somewhat restrained, not grossly overdone. Well done.thumb.gif

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Ditto!clap.gif Also - some of that 'urban art' is absolutely brilliant. Thought of doing a series just on that?

Thanks everyone. Glad you liked them. Snowgirl, I think that's a great idea. I'll be looking for more opportunities to do this with some friends who have 'contacts', so I'll see what I can do along those lines.

    Love love love them!!

    Two things:

1.) The HDR is absolutely amazingly done. Just wow.

2.) Not that they are anything short of perfection, I just don't think I'd like them as much without the 'urban art' ... I am a huge fan of that stuff. It fills me with emotions to see all of the talented artists out there running the streets, and not utilizing it for better purposes. But at the same time, it just adds to the history and dimensions of things that might otherwise seem like "just another building". You don't see many old buildings covered in THAT much art! Imagine how many people have gone their to tag.. In a way, it's kept the place alive.

If I had 100 thumbs, they'd all be up.

Gosh - thank you ValerieJean. I'm very flattered, and glad you like them. I'm hoping to find some more places like that soon, so I hope you'll like them too.

You found a great location and I like what you have made of it. Your composition works nicely with the building. Hope to see more.

    Can't get enough...
I Can't get enough of good HDR. You took great advantage of your opportunity... Leaves this viewer wanting more. That's a good thing, right? 2thumb.gifthumb

    Nice set John thumb.gif
    Really like the last two.
Would love to see the last one cropped a bit more to focus on the flying drapes (just below and above the windows - ie remove the railing at bottom and black area at top) - think that's my favorite of the set

an umcomfortably attractive blend of sort of perverted but suprisingly sweet.
