Dirty Sensor on Canon S90
The sensor has some dust spots on my Canon S90. It is obvious only in the classic sky and water shots. What can I do? (If it were a DSLR I know what to do.)
Can I take this apart?
Its probably not worth it to send to Canon. I will just wait till fall and get the replacement for the new S95(?)
You can actually see the spots in the same place. I did clean the lens without much improvement. Blower? Blow into where?

It is the purpose of life that each of us strives to become actually what he is potentially. We should be obsessed with stretching towards that goal through the world we inhabit.

It looks like moisture condensing on the rear of the "optical assembly" can leave these spots too, which appear to project onto the image sensor at small apertures (f8).
It's your call as to whether to attempt the repair or not, but I would not recommend it. Canon can certainly repair the camera but, like you say, it might be better to just trade this camera in for a "loyalty" refurbished camera.
I suspect that at large apertures the problem will be much less apparent. You might test that and, if it works well enough, use the camera in just those situations. You could also add an ND filter to force/allow the camera to use a larger aperture outdoors.

This needs way too much photoshop to be even remotely useable:

That's a humor rumor. I do expect an S95 replacement soon, though.

If the camera is still under warranty, fairly likely with an S95, Canon may repair the camera under warranty with little charge to you. (Mostly just shipping charges to them.)
