Rain, Rain, Rain...

... it can be a good thing.

Last week I attempted to go to a different waterfall in Shenandoah National Park. It had been dry for a long time and I figured any waterfalls would be running low. I had the need to get out though. The stream was very dry - just about a trickle. I ended up being there at the wrong time - I thought this area would be in the shade at this time but I was wrong. Here's an example:

This past weekend it rained like crazy. Monday was mostly dry and completly overcast (perfect for waterfall shooting). I went back to the same area. It turned out much better this time:

This last one is actually a stitched panorama. The previous week I was sitting between the big rocks having a quiet moment - the water was slow enough it was running under the rocks and I was dry.

    Sorry, Phil. :uhoh

But I have seen alot of these long shutter times to give the smooth marshmallow effect in the water. Looks fake. Not that you want a stop action spray suspended in the air effect either. Somewhere in the middle is better IMHO. :D

    Looks like a nice retreat.

    Thanks for the feedback Ric.

It is always a nice retreat to be around waterfalls (especially in the mountains where the water is clear). I love the sights, sounds, and smells.

Glad you took it (or left it) in a positive manner! :D

I think the flowing water is nice in these. Although you either like the effect or don't, personal opinion. I do think most of these shot have a yellow cast to them though, could have been the lighting but I don't think so.
