It certainly sounds interesting but I am reminded that other, similar filters have suffered from color artifacts and/or sharpness issues.

Yeah sharpness can suffer which is why I almost never use filters unless %100 necessary : color is easier to correct than lost information
+1. I'm one of the shooters who use lens hoods for protection. I know there are reasons to spend $100 on a good filter, but for that money I'd rather have a 50 1.8, you know?
The exact composition of each of the 2 filters is extremely important and we cannot know the quality of this new filter until it has been tested.
