It certainly sounds interesting but I am reminded that other, similar filters have suffered from color artifacts and/or sharpness issues.

Yeah sharpness can suffer which is why I almost never use filters unless %100 necessary :(: color is easier to correct than lost information

+1. I'm one of the shooters who use lens hoods for protection. I know there are reasons to spend $100 on a good filter, but for that money I'd rather have a 50 1.8, you know? ne_nau.gif

Variable ND filters are generally just 2 - polarizing filters, stacked. (Typically 1 - linear polarizer and 1 - circular polarizer.) Quality of any singular polarizing filter can vary widely, but when you stack 2 of them, all bets are off.

The exact composition of each of the 2 filters is extremely important and we cannot know the quality of this new filter until it has been tested.

I've been eyeing various variable NDs for a few years. It would be lovely if this one performs at a decent level for that price but ... I'm not holding out for it. Good glass never seems to be cheap. :S

Hopefully, it will turn out to be a good one. As of now, the Singh Ray is the only one that cuts it and it is super expensive. :( I have thought about getting one but have waited thus far. Unless the Kenko performs well, I may just stick to separate ND filters. I just don't use them enough to justify hundreds of dollars for a vari. The only filter I really use anymore is my Hoya Pro1 circular polarizer. I learned filters the hard way and bought Hoya Pro1 UV filters for all of my lenses and no longer use any of them.... except on my bulbous Tok 11-16mm.
