Soft image on Nikon s9100

Good evening all,

Firstly, apologies if this is the wrong forum - it seemed the best fit.

I recently returned from a trip to the French & Italian Alps with a mate of mine (by motorcycle). Peter had bought a new camera a couple of days before the trip - a Nikon s9100. The problem is that he & I are both a little underwhelmed by the pictures it has turned out. I'll post a few pics up to try to illustrate the problem:

This one, for example, EXIF looks soft focussed - even though Peter took his time and there is no movement in the shot. Compare this with a pic taken at almost the same time with my old and battle weary Canon s80:

EXIF

I can post a number of other pics - the problem is a general lack of sharpness in detail. Several landscapes taken on the hoof are clearly out of focus. All these were taken with the camera set to Auto with default settings.

Can anyone give me some advice on what the problem is? I am assuming that with 50% more pixels, I should get a significantly sharper picture from Peter's camera than mine - or are my expectations too high?

Any advice appreciated,

Mike

The Nikon s9100 is usually produce soften images only . So you need to use some photo software to increase your sharpness.

The best way to do it by using Adobe Photoshop only. the Nikon s9100 is one of the best camera around £300 it a travel use camera so don,t worry about the image sharpness . the image looks good only.thumb.gif

Are you suggesting that Nikon - by design - produce a less than perfect picture, but that it can be retrieved by specialist software? eek7.gif
