Files for Print...

So I am just going through all the files on my computer to get them organized in Bridge how I want them to go to my SmugMug site. These are all photos to be put into galleries for prints.

My question is... I only need to upload them at one size correct? Just upload the largest size file I have ( dimensions, not MB size.) and all other size prints will be scaled down at your end, either by SmugMug or the printers correct? I couldn't find anything on this on the web site, though I just may not be seeing the right place to look for the info... A previous site I worked with wanted me to upload each size that I wanted to make available for printing. Rather annoying uploading 16 versions of the same photo... (and needless to say I am no longer with them...)

And on a related topic, how much upscaling can be done with the files for printing? I know upscaling is not a recommended practice due to resolution loss, but sometimes I am willing to go up just a little bit on a shot to make it fit the correct dimensions.

Upload the highest resolution files you can that are within our limits of 24 megabytes and 48 megapixels.

We print using your originals. Here's our print resolution chart showing what the minimum resolution needed for each print size:

There's also some info about upsample / downsample on the same page.

Is there a setting within smug mug to have the photos upload smaller than my file? Meaning....my files are huge, but I dont need to upload such big files for proofing...plus it takes 4-EVER... ??

I'm sorry, no. But you can do things on your end, if you wish - you can compress the files, (PS 6,7,8) or (LR 8,9, 10) and you can also reduce the file sizes too, if you want in PS or LR, but be sure to upload at least the minimum resolution that you want to sell: http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/84518
