Oh yeah! Thanks to LR3, I have a useable image at 3200! It's a snapshot but I wanted
to test the capabilities and it definitely passed. crazy!

Lightroom 3's noise reduction tool is freaking magic. Before LR3, I tried numerous NR actions and software and they did an OK job at best. Most of the shots at high ISO were throwaways. LR3 really makes shots that would have been junked into keepers. Combine LR3 NR capabilities with the high ISO performance of my D700 and I can shoot keepers at virtually any ISO. It is really nice to have these tools.

Watch a football game and observe the sideline photographers. All the lens used to be white, now almost all are black.

Unless you have a D700 and you're comparing it to whatever other Canon body you have, then whatever testing you've done is flawed.

didn't intend to turn this into a which is better discussion!

anyway thanks all. I have found that the NR in lr3 is very powerful, and a little goes a long way. i think I had both the noise and color noise right around 20. i'm just pretty wowed by it. never thought 3200 could be an option for me :)

That's just because they want the players to be in focus...

Great example of the power of LR3!
I did some recent tests comparing the D700 with the D7000 and I was quite impressed with it's capabilities at high ISOs......
My friends 7D does very well too....
