Like the shot a lot. The iridescence and eye detail is cool, but seems a little soft. Is the photo heavily cropped?

its a bit OOF
the bug was about 3mm long
this was the only reasonable shot , the others turned out no good
edit
tried editing some more
is this better ?

Yes, second version is much better!
I was going to say the focus seemed to be on the fly's back, but that doesn't seem to be the case on the second version.
Was he just landing, or something? His back legs seem to be doing a dance behind him...
Nicely done, though.

Lovely capture- a little Chloropid fly I think. Actually prefer the first version - 2nd one looks oversharpened for my taste.

second is indeed overdone
thats what happens if you try to edit a pic that is not good to start with in the first place
