What do you call yourself to differenciate you from your competition. I was surfing the web for sample portfolios, and noticed this one that was very interesting. Lee Siegman calls himself a "Concierge Photographer". I've her of a Concierge Doctor, but never photographer. I like that term for someone to is an On-Location photographer. What do you all think?

I would think your (in general, not you specifically) work should speak for itself...not a title.

Reminds me of one of my first jobs. I worked as a 'Petroleum Transfer Engineer'.... I pumped gas.

    " Freaking Awsome!"
I also tell people that apart from my rugged and stunning good looks and incredible talent, my modesty is my greatest assett. :D:D:D

I think you can get too clever and creative for your own good.

If I heard of a concierge photographer, i'd think they worked for a Hotel! Other people may think the same, some may not know what it means so bypass him as not doing what they want but I'll bet very few would take the time to delve into the ho hum story behind the clever name.

To me, simple is still and always will be best.
Wedding- portrait Photographer, Commercial photographer, Kindergarten photographer and even just plain " Photographer".

I also try to avoid the term " Professional Photographer"
Did you ever hear of a professional Carpenter, Professional artist, Professional Gardner, or a professional Doctor? How many people do you know that are hobby photographers call themselves " A Photographer"? they may say I'm an amateur or hobby photographer but there is never any confusion as to their status.

I think the public assume if your carrying a heap of gear, selling your pics etc, the title of "Professional" is a given.

You can be clever about your title or description but I think one has to be careful that dosen't do more harm than good.

    'Petroleum Transfer Engineer'

I like that one Mike. My friend could be a theatrical admissions representative because he's a ticket taker at a movie house.

If you have a title, it should represent what you shoot. I have seen some funky titles that photographers give themselves and always leave wondering what they actually shoot.
