Wow, ok, so a guy goes away for a while and when I come back, things have changed. I like the new look.

Anyhow, I haven't posted in a while, but got back from a family vacation in South Dakota (Where I visited my in-laws), and thought I'd post a couple for everyone to check out. It was very late in the day, or early in the evening, however you wanna look at it. It was dusk, there's, let's agree on that.

Let me know what you think.

2. Félix 2

3. Louis

As always, thanks for looking and commenting!

Thanks,

Really like the look of the young boy in the tall grass. Very nice look. Taking children's photos is my favorite.

Thanks! I always try to give children's photos a more "dreamy" feel to them without going over board too much. Like my grandmother used say, a pinch of this and a touch of that.

This is the magical times of day to shoot and the rich colors really come through. My only nit is that they are a bit soft in focus with number four being the sharpest on the child's face and eyes in particular...

I have to agree with you on this also. I do like #3, but it's my least favourite of the bunch.

    Thanks!

Focus was a wee bit difficult due in large part to the seemingly inability for my boys to stop moving and fidgeting, and the quickly loosing light situation. I tried to sharpen them some, but didn't want them getting all screwed up. Everyone once in a while, like in #4, I get lucky and can keep their attention on me long enough to get it somewhat right rolleyes1.gif

    Thanks for the comment!

I think that sometimes a little out of focus adds to the shot. For instance, number one has a little surreal look to it because it is not tack sharp. I like it that way.

"Sharpness is a bourgeois concept." Henri Cartier Bresson-

Or another way to put it, softness is not necessarily failed sharpness. It suits the dreaminess of these images and in no way detracts, imo. It is a failure only when you have not achieved your goal in the photograph you have taken. In other words, if your goal was to take a tack sharp photo of your boys, you failed. If your goal was to take adorable photos of your children and capture a little of their spirit, without worrying about sharpness, then it's a win for you.thumb.gif

My cc would be to focus more on the wb of the image. These do not look like there was a lovely golden light which was most likely present at the time. Instead, they look a little cool. So, I would be inclined to warm the white balance, simply because they feel a little cold and "clash", imo, with their summer clothes.

Unfortunately for me, the sky was pretty much overcast and the sun was already down for the most part. So it was a bit of a bummer.

The idea was to have a more dreamy effect to the photos, so in that sense I find that they are a win for me. I know it's not for everyone, but I wanted to capture the mood and the moment more than anything else. I might try and bump the WB up a bit and warm them up, see what happens.

Thanks for the CC, I really appreciate it!
