The artist

(I should add that The Artist is my youngest, who was given the bathroom at a local, very hip gallery, to fill with his work at a big group show)

Is that your son/artist in #1? If so, awesome capture of a moment in time for his career. thumb.gif

I really like #2, her look the light. Well done!

Yes, the light on #2 makes the shot. As for being given the bathroom, well, I suppose if you're hip enough it's quite an honor. rolleyes1.gif

Laughing.gif! Actually, it worked out quite well. While most allotments of space in the gallery were quite small, and people hung a handful of works, he has an entire 'room' to paper with his work. :-)

Thanks - there do seem to be some creative genes coming from somewhere. I find the whole thing pretty fascinating. While my Dad ended up in PR, his passionate avocation was making reproduction 18th century furniture from scratch - using period wood, hand tools, etc. I have no doubt that had he been a member of my generation it's what he would have done for a living. My mother wove, made amazing jewelry, did needle point, etc. And my wife's mother had a career as a medical illustrator for the Department of the Navy. So my having a graphic artist, skateboard photographer, and gallerisata rolleyes1.gif as kids makes perfect genetic sense.

Really enjoying both of these. #1 just seems to be so perfectly composed for the scene. Ditto with #2 with the highlighted subject and everyone else adding to, but not distracting from her. The cut-off artwork and lighting was also spot on...

Thanks, Rainbow. But actually...with everyone mentioning the spotlight, I realize I did too much screening on the couple - both because the way you're seeing the scene isn't the way the scene was. And because I think that what I did detracts from the real power of the image. I'll post a revision very shortly.

BD - I thoroughly enjoyed reading about your family of artists. I'm especially intrigued by your dad's furniture-making. My wish is to build birdhouses--when I first retired in 2004 that was my plan. I soon rediscovered photography and have concentrated on that. But not a day goes by that I don't wish I was working with wood. When, if, we have cooler weather this fall, I hope to clean out the garage so I can get to the wonderful workbench the former owners built......and then go buy a table saw! :D This project might make for some interesting shots too.......

Thanks for sharing the story and images of your son. I hope he sells a few things out of the bathroom!
