Nice. Spending a week there in October. Anything I shouldn't miss?

Daniel, I feel that by now you should know me better than to think you have to ask for something like bikini shots of my wife. That's a requisite for our trip.

i would say NO MATTER WHAT a helicopter tour is a MUST on the island. I used a company called Blue Hawaiian. The island is amazing to see from elevation.

Pretty Much any type of tour is great, the local Tour guides there are very knowledgable about the islands history and are very informative.

as for key spots to hit i would say:
    - Kalamaku Luau - in the city of Lihue ( near the airport)
    - Shipwrecks Beach
    - a land raft or catamaran to see the Napali Coast (which is amazing and isnt accessible by car)
    - and if your on the South side of the island I would recommend TOMCATS GRILLE for amazing food at a good price :D

and that should be great for starters. :D

Bummer I didn't know anyone from here was visiting the island. I could have taken you to places you would never find with out a local guide. Thats actually one of my jobs here on Kauai is a photo tour guide. I take people to places for photography that are definitely off the beaten path. Looks like you enjoyed your trip though!

If anyone is coming out this way again, let me know. I can get you the hook up on where to go for photography and fun.
