Man do I love B&W. Here are few I've posted before but in color. I thought these all had the right tones to make nice B&W images.

All three are absolutely gorgeous shots of the girl. Helps to start with a beautiful child/subject, but you do her justice.
#1: I have never been a fan of blowing out the facial features, though it seems to be the flavor of the month/year/decade.
#2: This is the reason why I am not a fan of blowing out features: You have absolutely nailed her facial skin tone! This is what I would be after were I a portrait person. OTOH, compare it with her hand, which is "blown". I find it slightly distracting. I would play with the shot to see if I could take the brightness down ever so slightly, and perhaps burn in her hand and the ruffles on her right shoulder.
#3: Childhood joy so well captured! I would want to explore bringing up the black point a little to see if it adds a little more pop to the shot.
Awaiting your return visit to the street/pj forum to show off more of your work!
@ Rainbow... yeah, #1 pushes the highlights a bit. Something I don't do much of but I didn't meter right on this shot. The bricks were rather dark and her top was off white. I should have spot metered but I think I had it in matrix metering and it over-exposed just slightly. I'm viewing these pics on my monitor at work and I have to say that they the highlights have a lot less detail than on my iMac at home which is calibrated. At home they look pretty good.
On #2... this is more of what I do. I like maintain accurate tonal range in the skin when I can and this shot is really good for that. I nailed the lighting in this set. It helps that she has such a beautiful skin tone and that her skin is only 3 years old ;-) BUT... her hand doesn't look blown at all to me, even on my work monitor.
OH... as far as street stuff... I was just talking to my wife about how I need to get back out there. I started my 100 Strangers project, was so stoked with it, but since I got back from my SF trip, I haven't shot one stranger. I'm going to Vegas next month... my wife is going for work and I am tagging along. I will have 8 hours a day to kill by myself and I don't do much of the Casino scene so I will probably be doing a lot of shooting. Hopefully I will get some good stuff to share. Really looking forward to it.
BTW, anyone in Vegas that wants to get together to shoot?
