2 YEARS later, why is there still a major video bug? Disgraceful

I chose Smugmug for privacy and security, and allegedly it has better privacy and security features then many competing sites.

2 years ago in one of my secure albums I uploaded a simple video.

It didnt work. And what techsupport told me at the time was that I had to adjust the security settings to allow the video to be shared to so that it could be watched. They had no explanation beyond this.

I did as they requested, and the video worked.

That was 2 years ago. THE SAME PROBLEM IS STILL HAPPENING!

At this point, I think an explanation and a fix is more then overdue.

Thanks,

Is this the "Oups, the requested video could not be found"-error?

Hi, this sure doesn't seem right. Can you give me details? Write to help desk, ATTN: Andy - and I will see your email. I want to make sure I look into this. I'm traveling on our annual SmugMug Trip right now, but will have access off and on for the next few days. Thanks!

Yes, it is the Oops error. Same one for 2 years.

I opened the album to external links etc, and the video worked.

I've seen this sometimes as well. Try uploading the video again, thereby making a completely new instance of it. My bets are that one will work fine.

I don't know why this happens, but it seems like something isn't created correctly when the video is uploaded/processed, and it doesn't seem like it can be fixed, even by support. So my fix has been to delete the video and just upload it again.

Stupid that this has to be done. But it's quicker than having to deal with support and all that jazz, and you can get back to work knowing everything will work like it should.

To give you some stats on how often I see this, I've uploaded 500gb of videos (source file size, not SM size) and I've had maybe a dozen or dozen and a half since the video feature was introduced. thumb.gif

I've also seen this "return" lately. I have set my main video gallery to external links "yes", so I might just be noticing it when I upload to other galleries that are set to external links "no". Now though, for me, a refresh or two of the Lightbox page will clear the error and play the video. Thronsen, Samir, can you guys confirm this?

I have a few videos to upload from the weekend, so I'll know if I see this in the next 48hrs.
