I made private gallery and select one photo and share it on Facebook (via button bellow photo). When I click on photo in Facebook whole gallery opens for viewing. :huh Can't I share only one photo from gallery (OK, I know I can select Share & Get a link $ copy direct link but I want to share it through F Share button bellow photo.)

Sure you can - use the Share > get a link feature and only share a direct link to the photo, not the gallery :)

Yes, like I wrote. But button under picture for share with FB could be misleading for someone (me). One thinks that only that photo is shared (as is shown on the FB wall). But when you click on it, whole gallery is opened.

Yeah, this solution is terrible. My clients are horrified that they're opening the entire gallery up to the world when they just want to share one image. This has actually encouraged screenshot-sharing.

The FB button under each photo should only be for that photo and none others. If it's not that's totally wrong.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that found this strange. Plus it would be great for images in facebook to preview larger and video to be embedded like it does with youtube and vimeo clips.
Do you think this might be something that's looked into for future updates/tweaking?

    Lara,
I'm not an expert on Facebook and don't know if it's even possible to display photos beyond thumbnail size in the stream.
The link allows people to click to view the photo large in the SmugMug gallery. If they want, they could then also look at other photos in the gallery. That's intended and part of the share function.

If you don't want a link back to the gallery, you can follow Andy's suggestion and share a direct photo JPG link instead. Go to share > get a link > photo links and select a photo size of your choice. Then go to Facebook and post that photo link.

To suggest a feature, you can use our feedback pages. Thanks!

its more for other people that a sharing, not when I share. We can't be explaining the complexity of sharing to everyone that visits the site.

I may sugest it but I'm not sure that any of those suggestions are even taken seriously. I guess just having a box for the person who is sharing to chose if they want to share just the image or to include a link back to the gallery.

We take all suggestions seriously, it's how we've grown the site for 10 years now. Feedback and suggestions are like gold to us. Of course we can't implement every single suggestion but we take each one seriously and we're grateful to get them. Thanks!

+1 on the idea that it should only share one photo

I'm surprised people don't think this makes sense "as is." You share a link to the photo and it takes you to that photo in the gallery, and people can view the rest of the gallery. Just like if you shared a page on a website or blog, people could view the rest of the website or blog as well. If you want to only share one photo, why not just add it to your facebook albums?

Also, if it is a private gallery, then why worry? If they have the password then they ought to be able to view the whole gallery anyway, right?

Because some people want to share an image without allowing people to the gallery. And in order to have the share option switched on, the gallery can't be password protected.
I have right click protection on so having some download the image and upload to facebook is a non option as well and something I don't want people doing. Again this isn't a feature for website owners but for visitors.

If you want to do that, then use share, get a link, and share a direct photo link :)
