I've been working on my website in preperation of making Smugmug my 100% sole web host. Can someone please take a look at what I've done so far? www.FredJClaus.smugmug.com Do you think the logo at the top of each page is too large?

Not really sure I like the roll of film graphic. Do you still shoot film?

The logo is a bit big, especially when you center everything. If you must keep the graphic, maybe put it to the right of your name/photography and justify that left. The right justify your navigation? Just a thought.

FWIW, My logo is only 70px X 300px....but I admit, my "header" is just as large as your logo. I would like to shrink mine a bit, but haven't found an image that "fits".

I will answer with my personal preference and say for me it is to high because I don't like to have to scroll that much to see the slide show on my screen half of the slide show is cut off.

That's not really a logo. It looks like three separate elements. Agree that you should lose the film, as it looks like something quickly done in Illustrator. Also, not sure why the "J" doesn't match the fancy first letters of the other names. I'd work on your kerning too. It looks like F-red. Additionally, I'd try to find some better images for your front page - that's the first thing people see.

    Really?
"Fred J Claus Photography brings our studio to your location for a small session fee of only $45.00 which includes a complimentary 11x14 print from the session. Extra prints can be ordered at per print prices with package pricing around larger print quanity orders."

No offense, Fred, but are you NUTS? You can't fill your vehicle for $45, not to mention the cost of that 11 x 14 print. Have you gone through any accountant or done any costing programs to figure out what your hourly rate SHOULD be? Sorry to hijack the thread onto costs, but I went to see your site and this statement just leaped out at me - and not in a good way. Sorry.

Hi Fred. I seriously didn't mean to offend you and if I did, I do apologize. But that said, when you put the effort into creating a good site, and you obviously care to present a professional image or you wouldn't have asked this group for input, then your pricing structure should be consistent with that nicer image, shouldn't it?

    All the best,

Hijacked again, I tend to leave prices off my site. I know that may scare off potential clients but I use it as a way to screen them. I don't want to shoot for people who want me because I'm the cheapest. I want the clients who think wow he's good let's contact him. With that being said I should point out that 1 - I don't support my family doing this as my wife buys too many shoes. 2 - I mostly off word of mouth and useing previous clients to pass out a business card or two. 3 - I do not work for friends. 4 - I know a couple people who have high class jobs that spread the word and hand out a business card or two. 5 - I'm a control freak. 6 - I made enough profit to cover my costs, which is all I can ever pray for. 7 - If your still reading this I know that you will kill my post about bad business practices, that's ok, I enjoy reading yours and learning in's and out's. 8 - I DON'T DO THIS AS MY DAY JOB AND I'M SURE IT SHOWS.

Your about page reads in multiple persons - stick to one voice - "I have been ..." "I will do.." etc

Back to the logo question, it looks like clipart so ditch the film strip. I like having your name at the top, makes it so you don't have to scroll too far to get to the content. The red letters make me think of santa claus right off. If that's cool with you then it's cool with me. Refer to the smugmug customization threads for ideas on how to make your site stand out.

Thanks everyone. Andy, I've been told that by a few people. Going to re-write that page and change the image as well.
