I woke up too late to join some friends in Narragansett today, so I went to Gooseberry Island in Westport, MA instead. The surf was pretty rough for this place, I got nailed just below my waist while shooting and almost got dumped into the water. I can't even imagine how rough it will be during the peak of the storm at high tide. Anyway, the pics:

5. This was when I got soaked. Still got the shot, lol.

6. And this incoming wave is the one that got me in the previous shot.

Bryan - great set of images. There are definitely some strong images here. I would suggest though that if shooting more shots get some with buildings or damage to the landscape. If not knowing ahead of time that these were part of Irene one would not think these were different than any other day.

#2, 4, 5, 6, and 8 all have some great feel to them. Nicely done! thumb.gif

Awesome shots, Bryan. One really gets a feel for the power in the water in these. Otherwise there are too many good ones to choose. I will say the water in #3 looks like flames. :wow

Great shots, Bryan. I really like the black and white pictures. At any point were you kicked off the island?

Great shots. I particularly like the B&W. Some of them have some halos, e.g., around the dark rocks in #3. HDR?

I was there for sunrise, and was the only person there. Plus it was the day before the storm. Had it been Sunday, I likely wouldn't have been allowed near there. From reports I've seen, the water was 3 or 4 feet over the causeway leading to the island! eek7.gif

Really powerful shots! My favs are #8 & 14. May I ask your shutter speed, did you use a tripod, and did you use a neutral density filter?

My EXIF data is listed at the top of each photo. It may be hard to see on an Iphone. Yes, I always use a tripod and I was using a 2 stop grad for all of these.
