This is Cleveland Cliffs Basin in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan near Munising, taken last week-end. Colors were about 50-70%, a very slow start there. Comments welcome.

Normally I won't comment on other people's work. I mean who am I? and our opinions are so subjective anyway. But since you asked, here goes. The colors are good enough and yes, fall has been very slow and sporadic. It's the same here in Ontario. The only thing that bothers me is the forground. It just looks untidy. Now sometimes untidy is unavoidable (try tidy in the Canadian bush :D ) but in this case could you have used a wider angle and walked out into the mud in order to put it behind your view? Maybe not. I wasn't there and I'm certainly not aware of your limitations neither equipment or position.

Let me suggest that you look for more specific and less general compositions. If the big picture is not that inspiring perhaps you can find a branch or two that are getting really pretty. Maybe relected in some water. Go out in the rain with a polarizer and shoot individual leaves wet. Use your flash carefully too along with the ambient light. Use your polarizer with your flash. The possibilities are endless and you'll come home with some good and creative work.

    Be encouraged

I've been hunting for some nice autumn colours too and things are pretty slow her as well.
Colours in this shot are fantastic, I like this shot and some very good tips from Bob too.
