Sorry fella's, I said girls, not women. :D

Daughter had a couple of friends over for a sleepover. They were trying on some of her old dance costumes and we had the idea for an impromptu photo session. A half and hour of moving sofas and setting up and we did about an hour shoot.

Here are a few of the ones I liked. Comments most welcome.

5. I threw up a roll of white paper and tried a few head shots.

I'm pretty happy with these for an impromptu session. If there are flaws or areas for improvement, I'm all ears!

Thanks!

    Bryce...

These are really good. A lot of fun. Have the girls seen them? I'm sure they went bananas if they did. Great job.

These are good. I'm sure the girls will want copies. I'm finding #3 (on my calibrated monitor - which darkens the monitor) a little too bright on the skin. Anyone else see that? Good shots.

Great work! Agree with Rob, #3 is blown out a wee bit.

Thanks bunches peoples! We did have a lot of fun (at least if measured by the "giggle factor")

When the girls wake up, they will find them posted to their Facebook walls. I am eager to hear their response when I get home.

I think I know what caused the problem in number three. I added a fifth kicker light to make sure the black glove wouldn't get lost against the black background and may have had it dialed up a bit too much or didn't gobo it properly. I'll take that one into PP and see what I can do about it.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

I'm gonna agree with everything said above Bryce.

Beautiful set with only # 3 a bit harsh and blown out. Otherwise just beautiful.

Much better, Bryce. You can seem more colour in the skin now. Good shot!

Very nice on all of these. You've got some great subjects to work with and great expressions. Skin tones seem alttle warm to me however.

Must be my "Kodak Peortra" processing! :D I don't think I've jumped on the cool skin tone bandwagon yet.

    Bryce,

Hey, it's all personal preference. If you like it go for it. They still are great.

    Thanks Charles.

I'm not certian it's my preference, it's just the look I was used to. Remember, I'm old. Mr. Eastman and I used to be good friends:D. Now that I've taken this up again and am getting used to doing my own post, my eye tends goes back to those warm colors (not to mention softness) I became accustomed to from our friends in Rochester.

I think old dogs can learn new tricks though. I PP this one with what I consider a cool temp.

Nice one. For the heck of it bring the exposure down some and see if her faces develops a lighting contour to it. I think it will. Then take a white brush and dab the catch lights a tad larger. Then take the black brush and dab out that lower light in her eye at 6.

Hey, I'm old too but I'm not afraid to ask how to do that. My ego "ain't" that big. How do you get to Carneige Hall.....practice one more day again and again. Taking a class next week from Warne Noyce from Canada. Can't wait to learn.

Well Charles, I had A little time to spare and tried to follow your instructions. (Seems that I spend more time in PP than I do taking the images these days) Not sure I nailed it exactly as you had in mind, but this version does indeed look richer than the original. I may have overdid it a bit originally as I felt the need to lower saturation a bit because I thought that it ended up a bit too rich. I really do like the way the larger catch lights look in the eyes. Adds a nice pop.

Thanks for putting up with me and my continuing education. Your a patient professor!

    elliecharles

I must ad that after the fact I found that this new version (the Charles version) makes a SMOKE'N black and white conversion!

Played the eyes, saturation irsis and lips some. Portrature and some high pass filter and soft light. Doing it with a mouse is a little rough. Gotta go and watch the game. Let me know what you think.

Ouch, I just looked at these on my monitor at work. Sure a different look from my laptop. Toooooo much lip saturation and a little too warm for my taste.(my workup).

Sorry it took so long to respond Charles. Came home to unexpected company last night.

I'm glad you said what you did. I too thought the re work was over saturated. Although part of the fun for the girls was me having them apply their own makeup while I was setting up, I know the blush and lipstick wasn't that heavy.

That, to me is one of the problems I have a hard time getting my arms around in this digital age. Processing for print gives you set parameters that can be controled. Processing for viewing on the web introduces a whole new set of challenges beyond your control. I know that images look different on my home screen than they do on my work screen. There is no control over the monitor settings used by the people viewing.

OK. Here is a before and after of an image I posted earlier in the thread. I'm trying to get a handle on what looks good, and what doesn't. The image on the left is the original and the one on the right is corrected to what my eye thinks looks good. Other than a few cosmetics, I upped the yellow about 10 points above the magenta and added just a touch of cyan on this new image.

Please feel free to chime in on the differences and if I'm getting close to natural.

Of the A-B you just posted I actually like the one on the left better, I like that it looks more vibrant.
