Evan, You've got the right idea. Keep working at it. A quick flip through Robert Frank's The Americans might help to crystalize what you're after.

Welcome to DGrin and our forum.

Was the sharpness/processing on the main subject deliberate? My initial reaction was that sharper would be better, but now am uncertain... I like the blur/ambiguity of what she is staring at outside.

Welcome to Dgrin wave.gif. Given that she is looking away from the camera, I'm not sure that sharper would be better here. OTOH, unplugging the shadows in her hair and neck might show some contour that would add presence. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Welcome aboard, Evan. As a fellow Long Islander, I've ridden the LIRR enough to recognize that first photo. Well done.

thanks guys! Glad this could lead to a bit of discussion! I liked reading your thoughts and comments rainbow and RSL. Moose, I am so tired of them trains, but it is part of LI commuting, eh? In Bay Shore, you?

At least I haven't had to commute into NYC every day...

    I'm in Syosset, Evan.
