I recently spent an evening photographing some of the derelict boats that have washed up on the shore at Ladysmith Harbour, here on Vancouver Island. I light painted some of the boats. I just LOVE night photography!

nice work on these Brad, I too love old derelict boats, doing them at night and adding the light is a cool idea,, I think I prefer the horizontal perspective on images such as these as apposed to the portrait perspective,, nice work here !!

These are amazing. #1 is my favourite for sure, and I think the horizontal/landscape perspective works best.
I always struggle with night shots. These truly motivate me to have more patience at night.

Care to share more deets on how you did #1?

Thanks everyone! I am really enjoying night photography and have been working on my techniques a lot.

#1 is a 46 second exposure, F5, ISO 640. It was shot with my 7D and a 10-22 lens. I exposed for the stars primarily and then painted the boat with a flashlight. Processing wise I didn't do too much in Lightroom, but I did create two different images with two white balances, one for the boat and one for background. Then in CS5 I blended the 2 images, converted the final image to B&W and then applied a blue filter.
