ID these Birds

I cannot find him in my one book and my grandson has made off with my other handbook. Plovers of some kind would be my guess. Russian River at Jenner California

I think they are either Red or Red-necked Phalaropes.

When you first said Red Necked Phalaropes I thought no way, because the books I had only showed them in Summer plumage but now that I have searched more sources. Definitely them in Winter Plumage.
Thanks for your help. Still have not found my good Bird Book that my grandson has hidden.
