As many times as I've been to the summit of Mt. Mitchell, I've never been there to see a sunrise. Well done on this shotthumb.gif

    Tom
I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Thanks, Tom! I was very happy to actually see sunrise as I've been up there a few times before for sunrise and it's just been too cloudy/foggy to do much.

Mount Mitchell has opening and closing times as do all North Carolina State Parks. Last week, it was 8 am and likely will be that next week, but you can find out more at: http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/momi/hours.php

The trick is to camp at the state park campground and then you only have a 1.25 mile hike (and the elevation gain!) to the summit from the campground to contend with. Otherwise, the park's hours usually get in the way of sunrise and sunset.

Thanks for that Bruce! Nice to know that I was able to convey some of the beauty of Mount Mitchell in an image.

Thanks! It's a fantastic trail -- a bit strenuous, but well worth the hike.
