Five years ago I joined this forum, back when my boy had just turned 5. Now, he is a big 10 yr old. {sigh}

Canon 7D, 85 1.8 at 2.2 or 2.5, ISO 100, flash through umbrella

I don't pull out the umbrella often but shooting at 3 pm or so provided a good opportunity for some practice.

    Thanks so much, Angie! I'm always a little surprised when my flash and I can combine to make a decently lit photo. And yes...the time has flown by. Watch out!

    These came out really nice. Good work with the flash.
    Select the background and take some of the yellow out of those bright spots and he will stand out a bit better.
    Nice work, 3 is my fav also.

    Nice shooting, Elaine. You've done a great job balancing your lighting. I need to play with this more.

    Always great to see photos of your handsome son!

    Plain ole' fashioned fab, Elaine - beautiful colours, light and a great subject. He looks older than 10, too - I'd believe a young 6th grader in those shots!!!

    Thanks, Diva! Yes, he actually just turned 10 two weeks ago. Because of the timing of his birthday, we didn't start him in school as early as he could have, so he's actually a 4th grader. But, we homeschool, so it doesn't really matter. He's about 3/4" shy of 5' tall and I just bought him men's size 7 shoes yesterday. Last spring on his baseball team, he was the third youngest but the tallest. I think his size is an advantage in the pool as well...he was a 7-time state champion swimmer this summer!

    Thanks, Qarik! I like 2 as well, but I do wish I'd managed to capture a slightly different/better expression, although I like having the variety.

    Thanks, Mitch! Our kids have really grown up while we've been hanging out here, haven't they? A beautiful bunch they all are.

    Thanks for your comment! I do love all those light bubbles and was excited to spot that background with that in mind and have it actually turn out as I'd hoped. thumb.gif
