Display of small photo bug

Hi,

I have the following image:

http://photos.foto-biz.com/Technical/Lightroom/i-f7NnKVQ/0/L/lightroom-catalog-location-2-L.jpg

The original size is: 388 pixels by 242 pixels. SM stores it properly (I can download it, original size) but the largest display size is only: 150 pixels by 94 pixels!

This only happens with very small images:

http://photos.foto-biz.com/Technical/Lightroom/i-f7NnKVQ/0/XL/lightroom-catalog-location-2-XL.jpg gets automatically redirected to: http://photos.foto-biz.com/Technical/Lightroom/i-f7NnKVQ/0/Th/lightroom-catalog-location-2-Th.jpg . That's the thumbnail! Why?

Can you please fix?
Thanks

Have you allowed originals in the gallery?

SM sometimes will only display it's standard sizes so if you have a small image, it will only display the standard size that is smaller than the original. In all honesty, SM's gallery display doesn't work very well with small images that aren't larger than at least the M size.

Jfriend is right. That photo would need to be displayed in Original size, go to gallery settings and set largest size to Original.

No I don't want to set original to the gallery. I have some photos that are much larger that I don't want people to download full size.

The problem is that when the photo is small, you are redirecting to the thumbnail. Just paste this in your browser: http://photos.foto-biz.com/Technical/Lightroom/i-f7NnKVQ/0/S/lightroom-catalog-location-2-S.jpg That's the small size, it returned the thumbnail. The gallery has been set to a max size XL and S is smaller than XL.
    Thanks

Here's Smugmug's conundrum. Your original is 388x242 pixels. You've told Smugmug NOT to display that. So, all Smugmug can display is a generated size that is smaller than that. The "S" size on Smugmug is 400px on the long side. Thus, Smugmug does not have an "S" size for your image. The largest generated size it has that isn't the original is the large thumb the "Th" version. So, no matter what size you ask for, if it's larger than the "Th" version you're going to get the "Th" version. Smugmug has no other size to display because you've said not to display the original and your original isn't large enough to make any other standard size.

As a work-around, you could upsize your original to make the long size more than 400px and replace your current image with that and then you will get the "S" size available.

To summarize, if your images aren't at least 400px on the long edge and if you don't enable originals, then SM has nothing to display but the large thumbnail.

    1. Actually, I didn't say to SM to "not display the original", I only set the gallery to display images up to max size: XL. The problem is how to interpret the settings.
    2. I'll see if I can resize to enlarge it to 400px. This one should not be much of a problem from 388 to 400. I have some other screen captures (mostly menus) that are much smaller than the 400 px, in the 200 range. Increasing the size to 400 makes it terrible/very pixlatedne_nau.gif
    Thanks

Smugmug treats the original very seriously. If you don't allow display of the original, they will not display it period - ever. Yes, I know that some could interpret allowing XL to mean allow display of the original if it's less than 1024px, but that isn't how Smugmug set up their rules.

As you have discovered, Smugmug isn't a great site for displaying images smaller than 400px in gallery form. It's optimized for photos and those are rarely less than 400px. If you want to use it for that, you'll have to work-around its limitations there.
