Lens Rental in New York City?

Hi all, I'll be on a trip with my family to NYC, and wanted to rent a Canon 16-35 while there. Can someone suggest a lens rental place in NYC I could pick it up and return it? I'll need it 6 days. Would I be better of using one of the lens rental shippers and getting it for a week?

Also, if you could give me any can't miss shots that I need to get while in NYC that would be great too!

Thanks for the help!

Adorama rents equipment - on their DSLR Lens Rental page, they show the Canon 16-35/2.8 L II for $24 for one day, $22 for additional days, and $75 for a week. I've never rented from them, but they are highly recommended as a vendor, and an Adorama rep is a member of this forum. They are located in downtown Manhattan.

For favorite shots, I'm a fan of the skyline photos you get from Brooklyn Bridge Park at dusk. I've got several galleries of NYC photos that may give you some ideas...

Andy wrote a book about photographing in NYC, I picked it up and would recommend it as a good resource. Photographing New York City Digital Field Guide

Thanks Andy! We rent that lens for $65 a week. We can also ship it to a Fed Ex in NYC if you want.

    Adorama
Definitely Adorama or Calumet , but if I had to rent today I'd go to Adorama first. Renting by mail is a great alternative but the savings over a local deal should be big to justify the hassle (of having the lens shipped back and forth coast to coast). If I save (say) 80% over a local deal I may think about it (but then I'd go for the local deal anyway)
That said have to admit that strange things are happening in this business making a mail rental for the same price as a local (and immediate) rental all considered somewhat understandable give other idiotic trends that I'm going to describe:
    1. Craigslist : it's local, risky (you can get robbed, literally) and the savings over brand new are (in most cases) ridiculously small
    2. Chinese imitations on ebay : cheap stuff that takes forever to arrive and then just won't work because it's cheap and made to last a week or two

given THAT anything is possible in this industry: like asking for a used lens or camera the same price as new at the store and actually selling it.

    idiotic? yeah

I've used both BorrowLenses.com and LensRentals.com and had great experiences from both places.

Hey Thanks Folks, I think I'll go with Adorama. Thanks for the photo tips too, I've always liked that photo of the bridge with the skyline, but didn't know where it was taken from. I've walked across the bridge before, so no prob!

Hi Moose, is that walkable with small kids from the High St A train station?
that's in Brooklyn : Adorama is on 18th street in manhattan, between 5th ave. and 6th ave. From that station you should cross the brooklyn bridge and then walk (a lot) or just take the A train to 14 street (@ 8 ave.) (in manhattan) and walk from there (6 blocks, walkable) .
