I like to get some feedback on the use of the Nikon 105mm f/2.0D AF DC lens on a Nikon DX body. Does the DX crop factor make it too long as a Portrait lens? Would the Nikon 85mm f/1.4D be a better choice for DX portrait lens?

Supermodels are actually quite often photographed at 200mm or 300mm; it minimizes distortion to be so far away from the subject.

So, it really just depends on your style of shooting. Either lens would be great for medium-length type portraits, and/or headshots. You could also do full-body portraits with either lens, as long as you can back up far enough!

@Saville: Great pictures. Really loved the second one.
@Seymore: I do mostly from the waist up and some head shots. A lot of it of children and mostly outdoors. I was looking for a lens that can give me pleasing Bokeh.

I am planning to rent both and try it out. Just wanted to see what the more experienced folks in this forum think of these lenses.

    Thanks for all the feedback.
