I suppose that with sufficient angle and strength, a good water balloon launcher could have the same effect as far as impact damage goes. But either way, that's crazy!

Just to demonstrate one time that I view the world differently.

There is relatively small a hole in the roof eve, not into a roof section over the main house, and two screens on a window. The screens can't be more than $25.00 each. To be safe we will call it $100.00.

The total bid from the contractor was $4500.00. This is nuts!!!

I can get my entire roof done, in CA, for about $11,000.00. That's the whole thing, not a small hole.

    California prices might be higher.

    Set of shingles, $90 - 200
    Underlayment, roll, $20
    Plywood, or patch, $18
    Flashing, $16
    Roofing nails, small box, $5
    Screen repair $35.00 each
    Soffit (wainscoating style) $60
    Paint, $45
    ~ 5 Hrs. professional labor, 5 x $90
    ================
    $774 - 884
And judging by the EW83H lens hood, and only one lens uses that one - if they want the lens repaired or replaced for some reason, that's one 24-105 L IS f/4 @ $1,119 at B&H
So we're up to and not over ~ $2,003.

Nope. Still not $4,500. They're milking someone.

Well we know that NASA shoots 100% Nikon, so it must be either Aliens or maybe the Russians. Or hey maybe the Japanese have a space program that we don't know about?

If an L lens could survive atmosphere re-entry, THAT would be an insane test!

    See post # 15 above. Still doesn't cover a 24-105.

Someone's luggage wasn't secured. Or someone had a tiff with their s/o about the cost of the lens and the lens took a flight of a different kind.

rolleyes1.gif I would install good nets though. The roof didn't exactly do the 24-105 lens a favor.

Drop from the sky a lens to me

If your lens is in your dream
    No request is too extreme
