Should It Stay, Or Should It Go...

A while back I posted an outdoor set of my Niece. I have decided on an image that I hadn't posted before to give her as a gift, framed etc.

A couple of questions I would like input on. 1. Should I take the time to clone out the hair wispy's on the right side of her head. I'm on the fence on this. I think it would look cleaner as a portrait, but then again it is an outdoor shoot and wispy's are a natural fact of being outdoor.

2.) Should the smile lines in the lower left of her face be removed? I hesitate to do so as this is truly how she looks when she gives a real smile and I'm not sure it would be proper to make her look like something she isn't. On the other hand she might like the look of "perfection". My household is split on this one.

Looking forward to opinions.

No and no. Don't catch PPS - Perfect Pixel Syndrome. It is great the way it is. My personal opinion is that unless the person is a fashion model and wants to advertise a certain look - then you really shouldn't be giving people digital plastic surgery. If this is how she looks, then this is how she looks. I think she looks very pretty, and I think she'll like it. it's a great shot.

The hair wisps are perfect and add to the shot, IMHO. It's an outdoor shot, right? People blow fans on models to get a look like that. I agree with RyanS about the smile lines. You *could* process it both ways and let her choose though. I've always been amazed how much editing people like on their own pictures. This is a sparkling shot. Love the clarity and the eyes. Maybe a bit too much hand though as it tends to draw my eyes away from hers. But again, that may just be me.

Don't change anything, she's a beautiful model with one of the most beautiful smiles I've seen on dgrin, she doesn't need digital plastic surgery (I like that phrase).

Part of the skill of being an artist is knowing when to stop.

I love it the way it is! Ditto as above on the hair wisps...she's outside, hair blows in the wind! And if she always has those smile lines, then keep 'em there, that's part of who she is :)

Another vote for no change here. Her smile, eyes, and your composition are what make it a killer picture. No change required.

I prefer it as is- fresh and natural- but Kdog has a point about doing it both ways. I just did a session with a young girl around your niece's age. The one that looked the least like her and a bit too cosmetically overcooked is the one she liked best. Go figure!

I just had a look at your flikr site, it seems your neice enjoys posing and she's a natural in front of the camera.

I look forward to her future pics, no chance of nudes I suppose :o)

Stop second guessing yourself. This is a nice honest natural portrait. Print it and stop stressing. She will love it. :D

Sorry, but what kind of wierdo would ask a guy to do nude pictures of his niece? Add to that the fact that she JUST turned 17, I think you need a knock up side the head!

Thanks for the input people. There are very valid points on both sides. I do like the picture as is, but knowing my niece, she will want to look perfect.

I think I will take the suggestion to print both and let her decide. I will report back with her choice.

Thank you (almost) all for taking the time to chime in!

The almost was meant for the ALL part, not the THANK-YOU. :D

    Sorry Bryce

Didn't mean to offend, but nude to me has no sexual content only artistic.
