Toooo esoteric for my small mind! However the longer I study it the more I see its construction. Despite the busy background the framing of the face with the arm and shadow does draw ones eye to it quite nicely. Sometimes its fun to try "liquify" on the background.

Actually, I just snuck in an edit while you were posting - to define the elbow more.
I take your point about the background, however I really did want the figure to have to *fight* its way back up into the image through the background.
