Here are a few more moose images from this past weekend. The rut hasn't started yet so the big bulls are all still just laying in the grass sleeping all day. But the cows and adolescent bulls move around a good bit. All shot with D7000 and 200-400VR.
First off, it was a beautiful (i.e. dry) fall day in the Chugach Mountains. The moose were hanging out on the high end of a valley right at the edge of timberline. The tundra was in full color.
This young bull came cautiously down the hill.
Checking out the scent of the other mooses to make sure it's his crew.
Just hanging out together.
Teenage boys will be boys.
At least one girl was impressed.
Yeah Baby!!!
Finally found a bigger bull but he did not want to play. Lowered head and ears back is very threatening posture. Licking his lips is also a sign of stress. This guy is really mad. Fortunately not at me. He was posturing towards another moose that was in the bushes nearby. But he did turn around and stare me down too. I watched him for a bit and he had a really bad front leg that he could hardly put any weight on. He won't likely make it though the winter.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
