My son Nate decided to strap the GoPro to his camera for Saturdays game. He shoots a Canon 50D and a 70-200 2.8 non is.

Frank, did your son mount it to the hot shoe or some other way? I looked at mounting options yesterday, I think it's a pretty neat idea in certain situations to capture wide video and stills at the same time. My GoPro now is mostly used only for off-roading (mounted to the front of my jeep) and the kids play with it at the pool. Attaching it to my camera is a neat idea to get more use out of it.

He mounted it to the tripod ring with a little bit of rescue tape and a zip tie.

The Humboldt squid are showing up in So.Cal again so we will be feeding the Gopro to them, that should be a much better video.

After some crazy incidents that happened in last weekend's game, I decided I'd like to have video running while I shoot. Hope to capture some cool action simultaneous to stills. Thanks for the idea to mount the GoPro. I'm mounting mine to my monopod (I never use the monopod with the 70-200 because I think it makes you look like a wimp, but with the camera hopefully it looks a little better).

I hope to share some cool stuff after the game.

Hey Adam if the monopod doesnt work out, Nate clamped the GoPro to the Monopod foot. We are shooting a Adventure Race next weekend. I'm thinking of the Gopro on a boom in the mudpit just under the barbed wire. Post up if you get something! Just dont get run over lol

Well had a good time with the gopro mounted to the monopod yesterday. Overall the experience wasn't worth it to me for what I was shooting - 13 year old football. The wide angle of the gopro meant that most all of the action was too far away to be interesting. The few plays that came by my way on the sidelines were cool and I caught a nice interception on camera that I missed with the still shots, so there was upside there. If I could narrow the field of view and zoom in more, it would be better. Here is the resulting animoto from the game (warning, it's long at 3 minutes).

Oh - forgot to mention - it was cloudy, so the exposure of the gopro camera was much darker than I had hoped. There is probably a way to correct that, but I haven't looked into it.
