excellent shot Dave . The contrasts between the leaf & stump really show the leaf in all its glory. I would enter it.

I Really like that shot. I wish we had more fall colors here in sand land.

As Bear said, this is a nature's color challenge, not a fall color challenge.
So with that in mind, I took this, this morning, the 18th.
I think they call this Magic Light.

I like the first shot. Nice colors and contrast with the background. Nice simple composition too. I had something like this in mind as well. The only negative I can come up with is that it seems a bit static and staged....
The "Magic Light" shot doesn't work for me. Too many sillouhettes takes away from the color as a strong compositional element. I think the color fades away too fast toward the edges as well....

Very intersting idea, thanks!
Erich, Thanks for commenting. The leaf is probably the better pic for the
challenge.
Sask, Thanks for commenting. Yes, that is the sun in the 2nd pic.
Nik, I'm not sure which pic you're talking about. Maybe both?
Anyway, thanks for looking.

I take it that stump has been burnt black, the leaf almost represents fire against ash (well for me it does!). I think you have set a very high standard for the challenge with this shot.
The "Stump" is really a section of an elm tree that once stood in front of
our house. When the city came to cut it down, one of the workers was
a friend of mine. We talked him into cutting a 10 inch slab out of the trunk
in which we made a backyard table out of it.
Over the years, the table has begun to rot. We get shrooms and other
fungi growing on it. The slab hasn't been burned, just aged.
This is what it looked like a few years ago.

Went out Saturday, shot some pics, though them all together.
The colors are as I shot them, with a little contrast and/or brightness.
Mother Nature's Rainbow.

I think the leaf shot is excellent. It's strong, colorful and simple.
The sunrise shot is powerful. It's similar to a sunrise shot I took last spring and it has performed well for me so far, grabbing a ribbon here and there locally. The colors are great and the skyline has interest which makes it a winner.
The collage has great colors and is a different approach, but I think it may be a bit busy.
Of the three, I am not sure if I would go with the leaf or the sunrise. I dont have the best track record for picking winners, so I will just thank you for sharring them and wish you luck.
I like them all.
The original leaf shot is very strong in composition and color balance, I like it a lot. But I think the rainbow is probably the best entry for the challenge. I might try to reframe the left most panel of it though, to try and get more of the purple leaf and less of the brown background.
