Karts, in the air?

Well, the track is on the grounds of Austin's International Airport!

The kart track held the Snap-On Stars of Karting National Finals this weekend. They reversed the direction of the track, which is something they will not do again! See why:

The exit of a very fast turn had a quick up turn that would launch the karts. The pictures don't really do it justice. It was even more dramatic in person.

They would actually get all four wheels off the ground, at the same time. :yikes One guy got squirrely on landing, hit the outside barriers, took another kart with him, and really hurt his right upper arm. The track will not be running this configuration again in the future!

A lot! Timing was hard, partly because the karts are accelerating as they approach, so you have to pan at increasingly faster rates. And you just have to flat remember when to hit the shutter because it was hard to watch in the viewfinder for any marker. And I had many shots that were framed wrong -- the kart too high, the kart too far right, etc.
